Location

Mayfair is a notorious hotspot. But in this nook, where pretension runs flagrant, discreet hospitality is still a thing, thanks to places like The Beaumont.

While the hotel is in the heart of London's action, it's hidden on one of the quieter streets, just moments away from Selfridges (for shopping, you're better off going to Liberty, however).

Walking or hopping on the tube to other London neighborhoods is easy. Bond Street station is wonderfully central and well-connected—especially now with the Elizabeth line.

Design

The old-world splendor of boutique hotels in New York and London has always inspired the hotel's design. The Grade II listed building was originally renovated by ReardonSmith Architects, while Richmond International took over the interiors.

Before the pandemic, however, in 2019, The Beaumont announced an enforced closure for refurbishments. This included a new bar, lounge, al-fresco dining terrace, and a suite on the first floor. Again, ReardonSmith Architects were enlisted, this time with the help of French designer Thierry Despont, who introduced a warmer, brighter color palette while preserving the art deco facets.

The hotel revealed its fresh look to patrons when it reopened in 2021.

Rooms

The Beaumont houses 50 rooms and 22 suites. Each includes complimentary drinks, snacks, and toiletries from the quintessential London brand, D.R. Harris.

The standout, however, has to be the one-bedroom suite, ROOM, conceptualized by British sculptor Antony Gormley.

The following statement by the artist himself describes the sensations of ROOM perfectly:

“I take the body as our primary habitat. ROOM contrasts a visible exterior of a body formed from large rectangular masses with an inner experience. The interior of ROOM is only four meters square but ten meters high: intimate at body level, but open above.

The idea was to reveal this slowly. I wanted to structure night as a preamble to sleeping and dreaming, and reinforce the feeling of being fully enclosed so the window only gives a view of the sky.

At night, the shutters allow total enclosure and provide total blackout. The very subliminal levels of light allow me to sculpt darkness itself. My ambition for this work is that it should confront the monumental with the most personal, intimate experience.”

Food & Drink

As mentioned, the renovations brought about the new Le Magritte Bar, inspired by American-style bars populating London and Paris in the 1920s and 30s. Bourbons and American whiskeys are at the forefront of the menu, along with a medley of time-honored cocktails.

The much-loved Colony Grill was also given a facelift and continues to serve American grill classics under the guidance of Chef Ben Boeynaems. Think shrimp cocktails, Caesar salads, and the restaurant's famous 'DIY' ice-cream sundae.

For a more casual dining experience, check out the Gatsby's Room, which offers an all-day menu, including afternoon tea tinged with stateside flare.
